"His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!' Matthew 25:23. In this scripture, what does the word servant mean and how do we serve God? The official definition of servant is as follows: "Servant" serv·ant /ˈsərvənt/ " noun 1. A person who performs duties for others, especially a person employed in a house on domestic duties or as a personal attendant. 2. A person employed in the service of a government. 3. A devoted and helpful follower or supporter. 4. One that serves others a public servant especially : one that performs duties about the person or home of a master or personal employer. 5. A TIRELESS SERVANT OF GOD
To me, the fifth example describes a Christian perfectly...a tireless servant of God. As a Christian, it is a privilidge to be employed as our Redeemer's servant, in promoting HIS glory, and the good of HIS people. But how do you measure what kind of a servant you are? How do you measure how God sees you? Exercise: Take out a pen and paper and list some of the things that you have done to promote HIS glory or the good of HIS people. Go way back in time...as far back as you can remember and then move forward. Can you see a pattern? Can you see what God sees? Can you see where you have been faithful in the small things...and how God has put you in charge of many more things? I will give you an example of how amazing God is! (FYI: I have never told this before...and I honestly have never connected this in my own life until just now.) Way back in 1990-91, I organized a small "care package" drive for the soldiers who served in Desert Storm and Desert Shield. This was a little school drive to send cookies, wipes, candy etc to our soldiers. A very short period of time...probably only a few months maximum. Today, I am organizing my 13th annual Christmas gift giving event that will provide Christmas gifts to over 1000 people in our community. How did this happen? Why did God choose me? Why does God provide every single gift that is donated? Why does God bless this event over and over and over again? Because I was faithful with the "little" and God has taken that little and multiplied it 10 times over. We don't have to know all the how's and the why's we just have to be faithful with our little part and then step back and let God WOW us...and He does it year after year. Add to your list continually....watch to see how God is PROVIDING in your life...in your ministry. As you think of the various times or ways that you have served, place them on your timeline. THIS timeline is all part of your testimony...a testimony of how faithful God is! Use your timeline to judge how you are doing. Is God blessing? Is God growing? Is God putting you in charge of even more? THAT is how you measure your success...not by the approval of others...but by the continued movement of God in your life. Whenever you are feeling discouraged, pull out your timeline...is God moving? If yes, then you have HIS stamp of approval. What an AMAZING day it will be when we stand in front of God (our master) and hear him say "Well done, good and faithful servant?" Keep doing the AMAZING job that you are doing! God sees! God knows! God cares! God is ALWAYS moving! Have a blessed day! I appreciate YOU and have lifted YOU up to the Father this morning!
